Organic petrology.
Relationship between organic matter and minerals.
Role of hydrocarbons in the formation of sediment-hosted ore deposits. Petroleum source rock evaluation.
Reconstruction of basinal thermal history.
Coal characterisation relevant to coalbed methane, spontaneous combustion, dust and gas explosibility.
Application of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to organic matter characterization and mineral-organic associations.

Current Projects
Thermal history of the northern and central Mount Isa Basin.
The role of organic matter in general, and hydrocarbons in particular, in    ore-grade mineralisation in Mount Isa Basin.
Organic matter - mineral associations and thermal processes in    Archaean sediments, Hamersley Basin, Western Australia.
